Today we left Nicaragua! As I’m typing I’m flying out of Florida and headed to North Carolina. Besides chances of flooding in Portland, this trip is going much smoother than the flight to Nicaragua. It was a great trip and I’m so glad we had the chance to see and hear about the impact the microloans have had in Roger Deshon. A lot of people said what a blessing we were in helping their business. It’s amazing how impactful $500 or less is. One of my favorite questions someone asked was about a quicker payback period. Her reason for this question specifically was that as the value of money rises, the more real money you will have to pay back because what you originally received is less valuable and you have to pay it back at a higher valued dollar. This was a principle I had just studied in my Macroeconomics 202 (take Nelson, he’s great) class and to see the real life application and how wise some of the people were when it came to business impressed me. The people really value their businesses, their communities and are looking for ways to improve. I myself feel so lucky to even be a part of the micro-loan program that truly is helping make a difference in the lives of the people there and in ours.
